Privacy Policy
MoodMatch ("we", "our", "us") is a book recommendation app. We collect only what we need to make recommendations feel right. We do not sell your data.
1. What We Collect
When you create an account and use MoodMatch, we collect:
- Account data — email address and password (stored and managed by Supabase Auth).
- Onboarding answers — your reading "why" (escape / learn / relax / habit), pacing preference, atmosphere preference, and anchor books you like or dislike. These feed your taste profile.
- Taste profile — a numeric representation of your reading preferences, computed from your onboarding answers and updated as you rate books. Stored in our database (Supabase).
- Ratings and feedback — star ratings (1–5) and mood tags you submit after reading a book.
- Reading sessions — session start/end times, page progress, and notes you write during a session.
- Shelf data — books you mark as "want to read", "reading", or "read".
- Mood requests — free-text mood strings you type into the mood composer, plus the book IDs returned.
- Affiliate clicks — which "Get this book" links you tap (platform: Amazon, Audible, or Bookshop.org) and the associated book ID. We log this to measure affiliate revenue and improve recommendations.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription, managed by RevenueCat. We do not store your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To compute and continuously improve your personal book recommendations.
- To operate your reading sessions, shelf, and notes.
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset) via Supabase.
- To process your subscription through RevenueCat and Apple's App Store.
- To measure affiliate link performance (aggregate, not sold to advertisers).
- To fix bugs and improve app performance using anonymised diagnostics.
We do not use your data for ad targeting. We do not build profiles for sale.
3. Third-Party Services
MoodMatch relies on the following third parties to operate:
- Supabase (supabase.com) — authentication, database, and file storage. Supabase processes your account and reading data on our behalf. Supabase Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) — subscription management. RevenueCat receives your Apple or Google account purchase receipt to verify subscription status. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store — payment processing. Apple handles your payment card. MoodMatch never sees your card details. Apple Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — font loading for this website only. Not used in the app.
We do not share your personally identifiable information with any other third parties.
4. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, taste vector, ratings, shelf, reading sessions, notes, and mood requests within 30 days. Aggregate, anonymised analytics may persist.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion — delete your account at any time from the app (Settings → Delete account). This permanently removes all your personal data.
- Portability — request your reading data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing where we rely on legitimate interest.

6. Cookies and Tracking
The MoodMatch mobile app does not use cookies. This website (moodmatch.live) uses no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics scripts. Google Fonts may log your IP address when loading fonts on this site.
7. Children's Privacy
MoodMatch is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us immediately and we will delete it.
8. Security
Your data is stored in Supabase with row-level security policies so that no user can access another user's data. Connections are encrypted in transit (TLS). We review security practices regularly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. If changes are material, we will notify you via the app or email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version.
